Since I drove this car for so long (12 years 216k miles) the driver seat is kind of creaking, but the surface is not yet worn. I'm wondering if it is because the cushion is compressed and whether replacing the cushion make sense? Should I swap between the passenger and driver side if possible?

In my first car the pleather drivers seat became the perfect and most comfortable mold of my rear... giving up that seat was the most difficult part of giving up that car.

No joke. The seats in my '97 Monte were much more comfortable than the ones in my '06. I could sit in that '97 for 20 hours at a time, and on more than one occasion I did.

Try checking the bolts that hold it to the floor to see if they're tight and lube the seat tracks. You'd be surprised where squeaks come from.

What vehicle is this? The squeak could be coming from the seat mechanism and not the cushion, as stated above. Apply some white lithium grease to the tracks, height adjuster, etc. and see if that sorts it out.

Could also have saggy springs underneath (those snaky s-shaped ones under the foam).

Will find it suprisingly easy to get the seats out so you can really study and repair.

Car is 97 Integra. I don't think the noise is from the track, saggy spring could be the very likely cause. It is actually more like a cord getting dragged across a compressed surface kind of noise, or an old sofa squeak type of noise.

This is on the bottom and mainly back cushion. The passenger side is usually empty and all is good, that's why I'm thinking about swapping.

I don't think there is a spring in the seat however, just foam and the metal support.

I donno about Honda seats interchangibility but on my 97 Subaru the seats were squeaking (from the cushion spings) so I did a 1-1 swap with used 07 seats off another impreza :)

Honda seats are interchangeable, but I don't want to buy another seat if I can just swap between driver and passenger. It is a 216k car, when I wear out both seats if the car is still in excellent condition then I will buy a new pair at that time.

Just checked again this morning, the squeak comes from the back of the seat, not the bottom. Sofa rubbing leather kind of squeak, but on a cloth seat????
