Seafoamed another car

I did my Dad's 98 Blazer with 200,000 miles yesterday.

My main concern was the MAF sensor because my method of injecting Seafoam is with a spray bottle. I left the MAF connected; motor wouldn't run so I unplugged it and voilla, ran fine, albeit with the check engine light. So, on to the Seafoam. Since the throttle body opening is not horizontal, I rigged some extension hose onto the spray bottle intake tube so the bottle could stay vertical and I'd get a full supply of the good stuff. Then, sprayed away a full can as hard and fast as I could, and shut down and let it soak for 20 minutes. It smoked pretty good during the application but the motor never missed a lick. Meanwhile, I undid the battery to clear any possible MAF code.

Went for a drive, hardly ANY smoke.

Motor was hot and everything.

But the improvement was simply amazing. I've talked about this truck; it is a pinger like you wouldn't believe! DEATH RATTLE of a ping, even on a 50 degree day, although it sounds and acts much worse in the dead of summer. Now, hardly any ping at all and you can feel the timing not being retarded. Mileage on the trip computer was a tick over 19 from just a few around town errand runs. Idle is smooth as glass from being fairly rough and shaky. WOW!! I just hope it stays this way. Seafoam is gonna be a yearly maintenance item for me now.

run another can thru TB...with 200k on the dial, there is more carbon in the engine than 1 can will remove
check oil after for excessive carbon from rings and dilution by the Seafoam

why not do it every 6 month,if it made that good of a difference? there might be more crud to be cleaned if the first time made that much of a difference.

I just ran some FP60 through my Jeeps booster vac line. I love seafoam but figured I would try this since others have used it with good luck. The Jeep runs much smoother now and the throttle responce is quicker also.

What is the difference between the spray aersol stuff and the stuff that needs to be poured/sucked in.

I think the spray would better treat all of the intake.

If I pour it in the Brake booster hose and in the PVC.. i still don't think it will be evenly distributed.

Spray is easier to use. Prevents 'flooding' or hydrolock, and as mentioned above, gets distributed better or more evenly.

Use a bottle of IVD/FI cleaner at your next fuel fillup to finish off the cleaning that you started.

Can deep creep(spray seafoam) damage the MAF sensor? My MAF sensor is in the throttle body and I was going to let the car warm up, pull intake and MAF screen of and use at least 1/2 can spraying it in.

Brianv6, I just Seafoamed my moms Olds 88 the other day as well, which has the GM 3800. MAF is built into the throttle body. I was just gonna unbolt and unplug the sensor but you have to have some crazy weird style hex wrench to unscrew the bolts. UGH, so I CAREFULLY used deep creep with the little extension tube to get past the MAF sensor. Voilla! Worked like a charm with no SES light (except for the IAT sensor with had to be unplugged - battery reset and all is fine). And Seafoam did literally coat the backside of the sensor, but it has only 1 hotwire facing towards the front - the air channel for the wire goes down through the little plastic sensor housing. As long as you're careful and don't douse the sensor, all should be well.

Oh, and same great results. My parents took a drive to Taos last weekend right after my Seafoaming - they got 34 mpg on the way back

Car is rated 29 hwy. Not bad for a car with 150,000 miles. Maybe if I use synthetic oil, the mileage will go uo to 35-36.

Oh, and use a full can if you actually want to get anything clean and see some smoke! You will also have to rip out the MAF screen. Permanently.

Basically it's solvent type flush that can be added to your gas tank, oil, and sucked into the engine through either a vacuum line or directly through the throttle body. Cleans gums/varnish/carbon and also lubricates. Can be used to fog an engine for storage purposes.

I'm going to try the seafoam nest year in the fuel system on my boat. I have heard nothing but good things about it.

I've been using Amsoil Power Foam the last few times I've decarbonized my vehicles. I found it easier to use than the liquid Seafoam although I haven't tried Deep Creep which may be very similar to PF.

Anyway, they're all very similar products, just choose spray or liquid, they should all work the same.

I PF'ed my Acura yesterday on my day off with a little PF I had leftover. I did it at about 2:00 in the afternoon and so there wasn't too much traffic. I pulled out of my driveway and waited at the stop sign to merge on to the main thoroughfare. As I was waiting the PF was making its way into the cylinders and the car was smoking like it had bad rings and was ready for the junkyard. At a break in the traffic I pulled out and smoke screened a post office AMGeneral jeep that was unlucky enough to be behind me! Within a quarter mile my exhaust was smokeless and the car ran perfectly.

Great stuff! I'll probably do it again in the spring.
