One of the reasons I tried the B12 Chemtool as I described above was that the check engine light was on and when I scanned it I got a "Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold" P0420 code. The code kept coming back, so it wasn't just a random glitch.

After I used the B12 Chemtool that code has not come back. It's been about 6000 miles.

I can only guess what the B12 Chemtool did to the cat, but whatever it was, it was good.


That code indicates a difference in spec as related to two signals. The precat O2, and the post cat O2. I'm guessing that the treatment also cleaned some carbon off of the precat O2, making the difference in signals between the 2 close enough to be in spec. I seriously doubt 1 drop of anything in the B12 made it through the cat. Just my .02
 
Seafoam is pricey for what it contains, but it gets the job done well, and you don't have to use it for a "hot soak" all the time. You can just dump it into your tank as a decent fuel system cleaner. However, now and again it is really something to watch it in action. It penetrates and cleans pretty well, so I wouldn't cry too much over the price. I don't know about you guys, but it costs me the equivalent of like 2 gallons of gas. You can always just buy a decent carb cleaner in a can for $2 and hose it down if you so choose.

Oh, and yes, your typical strong cleaner like carb+choke will do bad things to a teflon coating. That's why they sell "Air Intake Cleaner" that specifically says its teflon safe on the can. But I never really saw the point of the teflon coating myself, it won't last forever and carbon still finds places to stick.
 
The SeaFoam did a wonderful job in cleaning out the carbon deposits in the engine of my '03 Toyota Echo. At arould 15k miles I poured a whole can of SeaFoam thru brake booster hose. A lot of smoke was generated immediately when SeaFoam was sucked into the engine from the start. I let the engine sit for two hours and then drove at high speed for 3.7 miles until all smoke cleared out. At 30k miles I poured only 4 oz of SeaFoam this time, and NO trace of white smoke was generated whatsoever. The amount of smoke has nothing to do with how much SeaFoam is used but has to do with the amount of carbon deposits in your engine. BTW, the Fuel Power is useless in cleaning out the carbon deposints because I had tried it prior my first SeaFoam experience. I am no longer fumbling with a squirt bottle and FP at the gas station. Instead, I put 12 oz of Techron to the gas tank every 2k miles. SeaFoam and Techron help keep the engine pinging away. No more FP for me.
