I mix VSOT 50/50 with SLOB. SLOB is pretty thin. Then, each OCI, I add 1.5 oz. of the blend to a quart of oil (4). With my oversize filters, it works out just right. I get a little moly, a little zinc, and these adds being beneficial, a better oil. SM oils, other than the Havoline (high moly counts), aren't getting a ton of adds these days compared to SL, presumably owing to EPA and the manufacturer's demands for "cleaner" oils. Another factor is probably the cost of adds into the better (and more expensive) base oils needed to certify SM, GF4, etc, etc.

Should we be messing with the adds and blends? No. THAT is another story.

While a shot of this stuff is ok, no one knows the effects of too much, or how much is too much. I hear of folks dumping a whole 15 ounce bottle of VSOT into 3 or four quarts of oil, and THAT ain't a boost, that's a complete reformulation of the oil and viscosity, and I think that's what the manufacturers probably fear.

But I WOULD (and do), use 5W20 in winter, as this blend, light as it is, will thicken the oil marginally, probably ok with my 5W30 in summertime temps, but in winter, a little too thick for my specs.

I prefer things that don't thicken the oil too much. I believe this works on most cars.

I would think you would get the semi-best of both worlds. A good bit of moly, and a good bit of zddp(more zddp really). There wouldnt be any bad reaction or anything.

Jayno, if you want the moly of VSOT, you may as well just add VSOT as you can get the zddp and calcium from it, too.
