Very interesting and educational thread. I too thought of this decades ago, but am glad now I did not persue it. I have the technical and constructional skills to build, repair, evaluate, etc., but not the people skills.
I knew a young guy long ago that was interested in real estate, but instead of owning property, he became a property manager. He was paid by the owners, not the renters. Further he pursued commercial rather than residential.
