Schaeffer's SM 5W30 blend...

Hi all,
I've been using Schaeffer's oil for a couple of years now (most recently in my 2003 PT Cruiser with a great UOA...also a faithful user of LC and FP) and noticed that the recent case of the 5W30 blend I received was rated SM. I had a couple of quarts of 10W30 SL rated oil left over from the last case and used it along with three quarts of the new 5W30. Any ideas as to what changes were made in their SM formulations vs. the previous SL? I have little doubt that it's still great stuff...I have a lot of faith in their oil products and plan to continue using them in both of my vehicles.

It's a great oil, not available OTC to most of us.

Their website is down, but some have pointed out some time ago that the HT/HS has dropped on the datasheet, which means they are probably formulating it on the lower side of their viscocity range for the SM than they were for the SL.

I noticed the website down also and not up-to-date the last time I checked a couple of days ago. I did call and speak to one of their "techs" but I don't think he knew what I was asking and I pretty much gave up. I'd like to know if the add pack was changed or if other "compromises" were made in the change from SL to SM. Hopefully the website is being updated and may provide some useful info.

SL to SM

Drop in ZDDP max 800ppm.

Added friction modifier for fuel economy.

volitltity (Noack) raised means more GPII and GPIII useage and less or NO GP I use anymore.

Thats the major stuff have to read API stuff for more info.
