Schaeffer's #706 2-Cycle Oil

I have found a 2-cycle oil that I highly recommend. The Schaeffer's #706 Supreme Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil. I am now using this product in all of my lawn and garden 2-cycle equipment. This equipment includes 3 Lawn-Boy mowers, Sthil, Redmax, and Husky blowers and trimmers, and my Toro and Ariens 2-cycle snowblowers. Everything seems to run smoother and there is no smoke. Oh, before someone ask, I run everything on a 32:1 mix.

32:1! Wow. I typically run 80:1 with AMSOIL Saber. I saw a bottle at AutoZone the other day that said 32:1. Why that ratio?

Well, Lawn-Boy recommends it and I am very old school when it comes to my 2-cycle equipment. I even have one old Lawn-Boy that recommends 16:1. If it does not smoke or plug up the exhaust, I like alot of oil in my 2-cycle equipment. Besides I firmly believe alot of this lean mix nonsense was brought on by the EPA so I would not pollute my neighbors yard.

You can tell Shell anything you want to. I'm retired and I owe them nothing. My pension comes from my days with Pennzoil.

Johnny, what else have you run lately that you can compare it to? Mobil 1 MX2T? Red Line Oil Allsport?

I could be wrong but the TC-W3 rating would make it NOT the preferred oil for chainsaws and the like where FC and TC ratings are specified. I am sure you can get buy with it but long term use may not be the best thing to do.

Bror: I was using the Mobil 1 Racing 2T and it seems to work as well as that in my applications.

GregH: Lawn-Boy recommends ashless TCW-3 oil in their 2-cycle mowers. As for as the rest of my equipment, it's an experiment, but seems to work well.

I should have know you would be in the know on the oil specs. Did not mean to be a smarta$$ but some folks would not have known the difference. Wonder why Lawnboy of all the makers spec TC-W3 for their air cooled stuff and the rest FC. Hmmmm, I learn something every day!

I don't agree with the cool comment. I have two Lawn Boy 6.5 HP Duraforce mowers. They are the most powerful and hottest running 2 cycle Lawn Boys, from what I understand. The epa restrictions resulted in a leaner running, hotter engine operation.

Johnny, which Lawn Boy models do you have? Also, could you any differences you noticed in the Schaeffer's and the Mobil 1 Racing 2T (which is what I am using)? How about amount of smoke? Odors? Exhast port deposits? Cost differences?

My '94, 5 1/2 HP Lawn Boy seems to run cool compared to most of the 4 cycle mowers I've used. I've not used one of the newer models.

I'm curious about Johnny's opinons too since I'm using MX2T in mine. Heck, I got the MX2T from him.

Well, I cannot tell any difference between the two. Runs smooth, no smoke, and no strange smells. I believe the Schaeffer's is around $4.70 per quart which is a lot less than the Mobil 1 Racing 2T. I still have plenty of quarts of the Mobil 1 Racing 2T and I will probably continue using it in my other 2-cycle equipment, but my Lawn-Boys will be using the Schaeffer's. As for as what Lawn-Boys I have, I have the following:

1966 model 7255 - just did a complete restore with new D403 engine.

1969 model 1014 edger - bought new in box last year.

1976 model 5024 - did a complete restore 2 months ago.

1986 model 6230 - bought new in box last month.

2003 model 22260 - bought new in box 3 months ago.

The 22260 is the only Duraforce I have, and probably my last. The 6230 has the F engine and the rest have the D series engines, which are my favorites.

I'm crazy. I love old Lawn-Boy mowers.

Where did you get the nib lawnboy ? I have been thinking about trying to find one.

probably the engines are low rpm and run at a somewhat steady rpm.
