Would like to pose a question to those familiar with the product. The following caveats apply, 1) not ordering oil 2) not getting my oil analyzed. Please spare the speeches on #2. I’m just not that anal yet, no offence intended.

Vehicles in question are 93 corolla (1.6) and 91 wrangler (4.0). Weather is Kansas.

The corolla sees 120 miles a day, has 220K (owned since 37K) has seen it all oil wise (what is cheap and mix what ever I have). Changed every 3-4K. I would like to not change the oil as much, it is a beater commuter and don’t “relish” getting dirty on this one. Through local distributor I can acquire 10w30 for $4 a quart. Is it worth it? I would need to go 10K for it to pay. Should get 5K out of any $2 a quart oil.

Jeep sees 6-7K annually, lot of short trips. Use the same 10w30 or move on? Presently sees 15w40 summer and 10w30 winter. Been toying with using rottela 5w-40 year around. But for same money I could run the rottela or Schaeffer’s. This would probably be changed every 6mos.

Your options are myriad (btw, you now have Sch. 9000 5w30 to choose from as well). W/ 200k on the corolla, I'd be tempted to buy just one oil and run it in both. Here would be my play (my present method with my two vehicles is not far off this) -

9000 5w40 in the Jeep - chg once/yr.
9000 5w40 in the Corolla - chg every 10k.

Simple and low maint. Your cat. conv. in your Corolla should be past it's prime by now, so I'd think it's ok to run the 5w40).

I'm not real book smart on Rotella 5w40 - it's apparenlty a robust HD grp III. It may pass muster for the above scenario as well. What I like about the Schaeffer oils, is even though you're running the heavier wgts, you can have piece of mind on your cold start-ups with the well designed use of moly and penetro. Sch. bases a lot of their anti-wear technology on their expertise with these two additives.

I originally ran the Schaeffer blend 5W30 in my 2003 PT Cruiser (good UOA's) until I got caught up in the GC frenzy. I succeeded in acquiring enough GC 0W30 (green) to last until the vehicle hits 75,000 miles (it's presently at 65,000 miles...great car...no problems ever). I'll have to go to another oil at that time and was considering Max Life. Is there an advantage to the 9000 5W30 vs. the 701 5W30 blend? I'd prefer to maintain my 5,000 OCI's on the vehicle.
