Schaeffer 5W30, 5K miles, Sentra SpecV 2.5L

karst, the difference in oil was in my ’95 Civic (1.5L) that had about 70,000-80,000 miles on it. I had Mobil 1 5w30 in one winter and the car, on mornings when it was below freezing, sounded like it had a bad rod-knock when I first started it up. The next winter (some 17,000 miles later) I switched to Red Line 5w30 and the noise all but disappeared.

I remember the original formulation of Valvoline Max-Life which had 200+PPM had a similar effect in a friend's car ... but I don't know if the difference was as dramatic.

I don't remember what I used the winter after Red Line ... nor what it sounded like. It was definitely loudest with Mobil 1 ... nearly intolerable. Some of that could be the thinness of the Mobil 1 right out of the bottle.

Interesting, thank you. If the moly was responsible for reducing piston slap in your car, as some believe it does, then maybe it's worth trying the Schaeffer. It seems to be a good performing oil anyway so it shouldn't hurt, though I need to find a retailer/supplier in Canada.

I thought I read the Redline has an even higher moly count than Shaeffer so maybe that is worth trying next after a trial run of Shaeffer.
