Yup. Have never heard of this company so I have my doubts over their desire to provide continued support.
Back in 2010 or so I got an Innova 3160, it came with a CD Rom and the ability to reflash the firmware in the future. Needless to say, they never came out with a newer firmware, but they did come out with a 3160 MKII for sale.

Define updates.
I actually got one of these last week to use as at work as a backup to my Autel Ultra tablet. It's pretty fast; so far it appears to be full featured and have used it a couple times for bi-directional controls and it worked well. Updates were free and worked fine as soon as I hooked it up to wifi. Thinkcar does have a professional line of scan tools as well, so not exactly a fly by night company, but they haven't been around very long so I can imagine why one would see it that way. Also, tablet shipped from China and took about 10 days to arrive.
I checked vehicle coverage and abilities for my Caravan. To say lite on doing anything except codes it was terrible. No coding or special function compared to other scanners in same price range. I do have Thinkscan plus which when doing the transmission relearn it states not supported where my Autel does it. I just purchased a lauch with 2 year updates for cheaper and it codes Dodge.
I've had a Thinktool Pros for almost four years now and it's made by Thinkcar. It's a full featured scanner that does quite a lot and the functions do work. This scanner was also about a $1,100 scanner. My Launch X431 is almost identical to it in features and function and cost about the same new.
I had actually ordered that scanner that you referenced for the lifetime updates but for some reason, Thinkcar cancelled my order and I never tried re-ordering. Most of the reviews on that tool have been pretty positive.
Just in the last couple days I've used my Thinkscan to test the valve pause system on a 10 year old Honda Odyssey, cleared transmission adapts and performed a misfire profile correction relearn on a newer Ford Expedition, and connected to a 2025 Jeep Gladiator through Autoauth just to see if it would connect and scan through FCA's security gateway (it would). Everything I've asked it to do it has done, and for five bills I'm happy with it.
^ This one doesn't seem to be working now, but THINKCAR15 and THINKCAR20 are? I dunno how they figure out the codes for this site...
So far, I have not but I have not used every option either. No scan tool is perfect and I'm sure there are things that it can't or won't do but everything I have tried so far has worked.
My old Xtool which bricked itself used really weird nomenclature and asked questions in very odd ways, like to activate bidirectional tests. Seemed like a language barrier thing.
It was always workable, but sure seemed like you were talking to an ESL (English as a Second Language) tool
That said, perhaps Autel is also guilty of this? From what I've seen Autel seems to talk the English more better-er

I had a similar experience using a Topdon Artidiag600BT?... something... Amazon has erased it from my history. Anyway, it felt like a proof of concept with all sorts of UI issues and errors.
