Saw two movies last night.....

Very unusual for me!

Across The Universe - a musical I liked!! All Beatles. There were some very nice performances and the characters names are a hoot. Yeah it was another '60's movie - the typical timeline tie-in, but the musical arrangement was quite nice IMHO.

There Will Be Blood - I accidentally stumbled across an oil movie. Rather the wife did. Based on Upton Sinclair's novel "Oil" story of a self made oil tycoon in the California oil fields, Daniel Plainview - I grew up in the Coyote Hills and of course now Long Beach and Signal hill - but the focus mostly is on the Bakersfield oil. I read the book so long ago - I had actually forgotten. I want to re-read the book to see if it contains the usual Hollywood attack on religion - although Plainview is a worse nut case in the end.

Both worth renting at the library for free.
 
I'll have to check those out Pablo. Especially the TWBB.

I rented "Cloverfield" last night. 15 minutes into the film, I pushed the eject button on the DVD. I couldn't handle the first person point of view/shaky camera tricks. What a waste of 3.99.
 
I've been wanting to see there will be blood. It's on our rental list so thanks for the review.

Watched Jarhead last night. A great war movie although it was mostly about the psychology of the soldiers in the run up to the war (Desert storm). Not much actual war action. Still a darn good war flick. I'd put it up there will Full Metal Jacket.
 
I liked Across the Universe also. I wasn't sure what to expect, so I wasn't really sure "how to watch" it. It obviously wasn't a strict linear story, so what was I supposed to take away?

If nothing else, I loved the graphics, took me back 35 years to the days of images made from food die and vaseline between plastic sheets on an overhead projector.

Racing Daylight is pretty good, just found it today. The script was a little chaotic, but I loved the way it was directed.
 
I just saw District 9. It was good.

Thought There will be Blood was great. Across the Universe was great. My dad & sister loved it.
 
South Africans are allowed to lob a few profanities!
There's a small preview-type clip or something online. I haven't watched it, but if you google"Alive in Joburg," you should be able to find it.
 
I just finished watching The Pursuit of Happyness, found that one today too. I'd have you guys (and gals) over to watch it, but I don't think I could hold myself together. Thanks.

Because I work at the mutilplex I see pretty much all new movies. I do see them peace meal style and after seeing bits and peices of a bunch of movies over the course of 8 hours it does tend to get alittle confusing!!! :2cents:

a recent movie i found hilarious was "War Inc" with john and joan cusack, and another woman i dig (the journo int he movie)

+1 on "Taken". I enjoyed it a lot. Liam Neeson is a great actor IMHO.
