My 14 year old McCullough weedwacker was acting funny late last season, and I forgot about it's problems. Went to start it last weekend and after about 20 mins with starting fluid and fresh gas -it finally ran but would not idle, even with the idle speed screw adjusted to highest idle. I set it out in the garbage. Got to thinking about it, and I hate to part with old treliable tools (or cars, or anything else, that has given me years of trouble free service. I retrieved it from the garbage and proceeded to disassemble it. Sprayed all of the carb passages and cylinder bore with Seafoam spray and let it sit for 1/2 hour. Then I blew all the passages out with compressed air. Put it back together and after some high and low speed adjusting of the mixture it runs and idles like it did when new. I was going to replace it with a Shindaiwa weedeater for $245

Could have been sediment, varnish and or gums from fuel that has aged and evaporated off. Then there's those diaphram type gaskets for carb's w/o float bowls, as they control fuel availability it could first show as erratic behavior to eventual no-run situations.

Coincidence. I have an old McCulloch "Eager Beaver" weed whacker that has been giving me problems. I mixed up some fresh gas with a healthy dose of Seafoam, filled the tank, and started it as best I could, then let it sit overnight. It ran noticeably better the next day. Hoping it will fix it completely, but it still runs well enough to use without problems.

I ordered a Husky chain saw from them a few years ago-great service, great prices, and free shipping-even on large items
Now the leaf blower (Homelite) is another story-they seem to last exactly 2 years and the motor makes a gutteral sound and poof- I'm going with the Shin EB3410 Commercial hand held blower for $283-it will be cheaper the nbuying [censored] from HD at 120 bucksevery 2 years
