Savagegeese: Car Oil Fine Print and Misconception

Is this guy on Bitog considering they have spent $thousands on UOA's and VOA's? I think this video has been posted here before....looks familiar to me.

They keep harping on driving in cold (ie 0-32 deg F) where 0w-20 would work well. I think they really mean a cold start....which even at 0 deg F isn't all that "cold." And by the time the engine warms up, I'm not so sure I'd want 0w-20 in my performance sedan when hitting 5000-7000 rpm on the highways or by-ways....even in winter.

The 10w and 5w oils they pour around "zero deg" (0 deg F?) actually do pour...and they probably would pump ok too. They'd be warmed up fairly quickly too in that engine. What did I learn from the video? That 0w-20 pours a lot better than 10w-60 at near zero ambient temps. Surprise! And if I'm going to race my performance BMW sedan at the track on hot days, use the factory recommended 10w-60. Rather than switching oils back and forth from for track days...isn't there a better happy medium like a A3/B4 0w-40?

I googled and didn't find it posted previously. Could be wrong though.

Exactly. I've seen 15w40 options with pour points below -45. Pumping and pouring are different things, and 10w-XX and 5w-XX are perfectly suitable at 0F.

5:00 states that the lower temperature of the data sheet is 0C (32F)...are they rolling out new data sheets that use 0C instead of 40C ?

And the data sheet isn't as he goes on to explain later the operating range of the oil.

7:10 a 20 weight is ALWAYS a 20 weight, doesn't become a "not 20 weight" at 250F.

8:00 expected to see additive breakdown after a few hours on the track...what would he be looking for in that UOA ?

Funnel flow/pour point...been watching too much youtube...
