Hi,

My MIL is in desperate need of a new vehicle. One that came up is a clean one owner 2006 Saturn VUE with 43,000 miles for $8,000.

Anything concerning or major with these vehicles?

Pass. The early VUEs were part of what gave GM their bad rep.

Though, I think the 2006 models shouldn't be too bad. However, I would consider other choices if possible.

I had a 2006 AWD V-6. The engine/transmission were great, the rest of the car sucked. The AWD system in that vehicle was pee poor and doesn't even come close to manufacturers that know how to build a AWD system. They were known for excessive wheel bearing and rear differential problems. One of the best days of my life was when I traded that piece of work in. The later ones look nicer, I just hope G.M. learned something about AWD systems.

My wife has an 07 Vue with the Honda 3.5 AWD, no problems at all. It drives great in the snow too. Not sure on the MPG sorry

Had an 06' Vue with the Honda 3.5 in it. ABS problems, door problems, multiple sway bar end links went bad, very creaky and loose suspension, loud cabin due to loose plastics, etc. and I traded it before the 1200 dollar spark plug/timing belt service (as quoted by multiple mechanics). My Vue had 60,000 miles with all of these problems.

Thanks for responses.

Hopefully it works out. She ended up buying for $7k. The price seem decent for 43k miles, hopefully the vehicle holds together.

This is the reason why I run from them now...

My local shop has 3 sitting waiting to get worked on right now for a few different things..( an 04,06,07)

08+ would be better..

Hold on a second, isn't this thing a Honda Piolot / Acura MDX in a different skin? How come it has so many issues at 60K miles?

Only the engine and transmission were Honda sourced, everything else contained G.M. parts.

Engine was never the issues (it was the honda 3.5)

The rest of the car was the problem.

I like GM, but would never let someone I like buy one...

I had a '06 Vue. Although the GM parts were not perfect, it was the defective Honda transmission (torque converter) and cost of a timing belt replacement for the Honda engine the pushed me to trade it. All things considered, I don't miss the Vue. If it had the GM 2.4 and transmission, I probably would have kept it a few more years.

She ended up buying it for $7000 with 43k. Its the 4cylinder model FWD with automatic.

My wife/I drove it and it compounded her feelings about any domestic branded car. Drives okay but everything is absolutely cheap/junky in the interior but try's to look nice. The door handles shiny silver to look modern is actually wearing off showing black plastic underneath. All the radio steering controls have the writing worn off.

Seriously GM??

The worst part is dash lights have started to flicker on/off for her. It has an electrical gremlin.

You guys were right.

To make the best of this situation you may find helpful info at saturnfans.com. The Vue Tech forum may help you with those Gremlins, etc.

The Ecotec engines that powers the 4-cylinder ones is a very reliable engine. It won't have engine/tranny problems.

When the wife and I were looking for small SUV's, we didn't really look at Vue's - not too many could be found, and we weren't crazy about the 'rounded-off' look they have, plus, as mentioned, the interior looked flimsy andf plastiky.

An '06 w/43k should be a good buy - hopefully nothing serious is wrong!
