We bought our Impala with 10,000 less miles for $2,000 less then any Impala Carmax had at the time. They won't budge on price either.
It's a joke because most of the late model domestic "appliance" cars they have (Tauruses, Impalas, Cobalts, Focuses (or is the Foci) are rentals, fleet vehicles, and lease returns. Those type cars sell for peanuts at the auctions and that's why you can get such good deals on them from most dealers.

Apparently "wheels intact" is not part of their 99 point inspection! with it up on such narrow blocks, its almost tempting to push it over. (idle minds are the tools of the devil)
they're probably currently for sale on craigslist
There was a big stink here because they offered someone a dollar amount for their trade, then when the deal was going down claimed they "made a mistake" and wouldn't give them the amount they had quoted. It made the news, I guess the person complained to the consumer desk. Sounds like a scam to me.

Carmax is just a bunch of crooks. I was looking at a Z there one time. They were asking way over book value,driver`s side leather seat had scuffs and holes,trim and molding was dried/cracked,and the AC didn`t work (had a bad compressor that rattled). I offered them cash in hand a grand less than their sticker price,because that`s what it would cost to have the AC compressor replaced. They said "We`re a no haggle dealershp"........I was like are you FOR REAL???????????? Selling a car in Texas without AC is like trying to sell ice on the North Pole.......it`ll never happen.

Many cars at CarMax are bought from auctions and have obvious paint / body work.
many (most?) car dealers are full of crooks - why should carmax be any diff?
Maybe this is how they prevent inventory shrinkage.
