My cousin owes me some money, we would like to transfer it through Wal Marts money center, but where hes working hes 2 hours away from a Wal Mart. Whats the safest to transfer money? Im always apprehensive about things like that

Have him check with his bank and see about online payment/bill pay. Chase has a quick pay feature and so do a few others. They might treat it as an online bill pay, where his bank sends you a check.

Outside of that, Venmo, Paypal are the two that come to mind.

Does he have a bank account ?

Does he have a credit or debit card ?

If the best option you two have come up with is Walmart Money Center, it sounds like he might be a "cash only" type....

Cabbage Patch doll with "green" stuffing. No, not that OTHER green stuffing.

As EoE, I sent my 1/2 brother over 80g's in multiple checks over a couple months, check were in those "throw away" Christmas cards charities send out.

All Went across country - he got them all.

If you both have bank accounts you could just do an account to account ACH transfer.

There is also registered mail and Teller checks.

Wire is pricey for small amounts and highly visible.

Cash? … No, No no NO! Check?

Venmo is the easiest, if it comes directly from a bank acct, there is no charge to the sender.
Best if you have a Venmo acct also so you can received it faster and you can withdraw it into a linked checking acct.

Paypal is also easy but you need to specify that it is personal transfer otherwise, they charged fee on both sides.
This is actually the oldest and Paypal also own Venmo.

The bank have Zelle but I think it is integrated with the banking apps directly.

All are safe, at least based on my experience so far.

There is also direct wire transfer bank to bank.

Actually, JMJ, there is a stand-alone Zelle app, as well as what is integrated into the bank apps. They all utilize the same underlying system, and money is direct - There is no 'holding space' in the middle. It is 100% safe and reliable because it is literally bank account to bank account.

We send money back and forth using PayPal. My wife’s family will buy something only offered where they are (or we the same for them), paying for meals, tickets, etc., then sending what’s owed to the bulk purchaser via PayPal. We do this a few dozen times per year. No fee for this.

I transfer money between my bank accounts using PayPal. No fee for this.

I prefer PayPal for purchases from individuals, such as from a forum, Craigslist, etc. I pay the 3% fee to cover my butt, should something go wrong, unless I know the person well.

I use PayPal for online purchases, as opposed to entering my credit card info into a website that is reputable, but not super well known. In other words, I have my CC saved for fast checkout at Walmart, but not any of the dozens of deals sites I sometimes purchase from.

Venmo by default makes all transactions public (sender & recipient name, etc).

Be sure to dig through the app's preferences and set to "Private" before you use it to send money.

I think that depends on the two financial institutions that are involved. At work, we're fairly small and use Chase as our bank but I personally use a credit union for my banking. Chase uses Zelle as their 'outside' money-transfer service (vendor) and back in December, a transfer was initiated on the Chase side to me. Usually I get a text notification as well as a notification through the Zelle app. Nothing.... Went back to the Chase website and it said the transaction was cancelled. The money was taken OUT of the Chase account. That began the blame game. Chase blames Zelle and Zelle blames my credit union. They even suggested that I received the money and was lying about it. I SHOWED MY CO-WORKER MY BANK ACCOUNT DEPOSIT HISTORY and every time Chase or Zelle repeated that, he shut it down. After a bit, I realized that even my Zelle "account" didn't show the transfer so absolutely no way they can blame my credit union (kept insisting it must be held in a "pending" account at the credit union). We resorted to an old-fashioned paper check after a few days so I wasn't out the money but it didn't end there. At that point, we (the company) was out the money and Chase refused to simply return the money to the company's account even though it wasn't in any way our fault or mistake. Different departments got involved and even after they figured out what happened, it still took them 3 weeks to move the money back. Reality is, the money never left Chase too !!

Whatever works best for him. What does he have for banking? Zelle or Paypal is how I'd go but he could buy and mail you a "Green Dot" mastercard or whatever else.

Is he flaky and would you be happy to get the money before he changes his mind?
