Yep, after all the fanfare, I found out today that the much heralded 51714 is simply too wide... it contacts the front crossmember. DANG!

There is a probable silver lining, though. It appears to fit nicely on my wife's '95 Explorer.

How ironic! She gets the Lamborghini tractor filter (she couldn't care less about such exotica), and I get the F600 370 4V filter.

Oh well, I'll vicariously enjoy it through her after I school her in the wonders of super heavy-duty tractor filters.

Speaking of x-member hacking, I once had a '68 Coronet Slant Six which was originally an A-903 three-speed with no synchro on first. Broke two transmissions, then found an A-833 OD-4 trans (VERY early '76) and put it in. HOWEVER, the location of the shifter mounting holes required cutting the crossmember!

It worked until the 7-1/4 rear end bit the dust.

Funny thing- I still have the engine out of that car, on a stand!!! Still got the OD-4 transmission too; I'm a real packrat indeed.

Ohhhh, I am so sorry to hear that. This has been a great thread to watch. Truly humorous at times. Best of luck with the crossmember. Size does matter. Exotica... wonders... you see this is funny stuff.

Did somebody say, "torch"... Any torch would work better than a Lucas flashlight, though!

The last thing I wanted to start is a language war (or any other kind, for that matter)!

But it's all in good humor so life goes on...
