I'm thinking about getting a S&W 4006 to round out my semi-auto collection. I don't have a .40 and I figured I'd go with the pistol originally designed and chambered for this round.

Thoughts?

I believe my LEO friend has one of these. I've shot a few mags through it at the range. Good, solid, tried and true.

Agreed. I don't personally care for them - but they are a proven reliable design. I know people who own them. There are better guns out there but to round out your gun collection I say go for it.

When a no-gun person likes it it must be a sign. Buy it.

The 3rd gen S&W DA/SA autos were real pieces of firearm art. The barrels use an actual locking lug (like Browning's original design). You hardly see that anymore except on 1911s and the Browning Hi-Power.

I have a 4006 just like the one pictured. It is my favorite forty. It feels the best in my hand and always works. I often take it to the range ahead of my Glock 23 and 27. Great gun.

I know that I've posted before on this subject - I am a 3rd Gen S&W fan, own a couple, carried the 5906 and love the solid construction, reliability and accuracy.

Bit heavy? Sure...so's the block on a diesel...ever wonder why they run so long?

The one you've got pictured is pristine - a nice find if it looks like that one...

I am sure you'll like it.

Cheers,

I've had mine for just over a month now and have put around 500 rounds through it. Mine was Milwaukee PD trade-in. Got it in very good condition with 2 mags and a case for $350 (before tax and fees).

Awesome gun! 100% reliable so far using a mix of FMJ and JHP ammo of various quality. The weight of the gun really makes it a kitten when shooting .40 S&W. As accurate as you can ask in a pistol too.

I just replaced the recoil spring, FP spring and mag springs so I need to give it another test run before I put it into use as one of my HD guns, but so far, so good.

The DA on mine is very agreeable and the SA is very light. Now S&W DAO's are another story completely. Couldn't stand my 3rd Gen DAO S&W.
