I thought that Synthetic are not suppose be used in rotary engines...Did that changed with new RX-8?

Also, doesn't the rotary engine burn a metered amount of oil? If that's the case, I surely would not use an oil with levels of ZDDP higher than current API GF-3/SL limits. You're asking for combustion chamber deposits and spark plug fouling if you do.

Thanks for the update.

Our cars still look pretty much the same on wear metals, but yours is looking better as far as fuel dilution and viscosity go.

What kind of driving do you typically do? Maybe I just need to run mine a bit harder.

I had to check a map to see where you were located, but wonder if you have seen any emulsion on the dipstick? Maybe not since no water was reported.

Why are you changing the oil out so soon? There has been some discussion around in here that talks about the cons of changing out oils too soon. This may be a candidate.

Don't forget, because of the oil cooler and associated plumbing on these cars, their owners have mentioned that something like 2 or even possibly 3 quarts of oil get left behind when the oil is drained.

I run 25% city and 75% highway on average. I hit 9000 RPM at least three times per tank.

At the very end of the last sample I installed a computer with a new fuel map that runs the RX-8 much leaner and that should bring the fuel dilution down.

The plan is to change the oil every 1500 miles until 6000 miles, then every 3000 miles after that. The reason is two fold. First the RX-8 only changes half its oil capacity and the second is the fuel dilution from running so rich.

I see from the post at RX8Club that you have gone with the Canzoomer Stage I kit. This is good to know for future comparisons.

I agree that it should help lower the fuel dilution. Could be worthwhile for that alone.

The fuel dilution is comming down and the viscosity is better. Lead is 0. I think I would be happy with this at this low milage.

At the Mazda dealers the other day and had a look at their special oil for Rx-8. It is a synthetic import from Japan (a Castrol oil I think?) and says on bottle, "synthetic & semi sythetic oils are not to be used in pre-Renesis motors"
