rust on truck carpeting

Can anyone suggest a easy to use and easy to get rust remover?.

I left a hammer on the carpeting and that area of carpeting must have got some water on it.

My first try would be some Iron Out, the same stuff that one would use to get iron stains out of fabric.

Of course, you'd need to try it first underneath a seat or somewhere, to make sure it doesn't affect the color of the carpet.

Iron Out would work ok.

CLR is your best bet though if it's really tough use that and a wet dry vac to extract it after treatment.

the above all sound like good choices, but I wanted to add that I have always heard that peroxide is good for blood and rust, I cannot verify the claim to rust but I can verify that it DEFINITELY takes blood out of light colored carpet.

Peroxide works by denaturing the blood platelet proteins which releases the iron to be removed. That's why blood is difficult to remove. It's a protein based stain first and then a metal stain after denaturing. But Denaturing the protein with peroxide, especially when fresh doesn't allow the metal stain to set so it can be washed away.

Iron stains by themselves work better with chemical reducers such as Iron Out and CLR. Peroxide won't help rust stains because as an oxidizer it does nothing to actually remove the iron, in fact it will cause rusting if all the iron hasn't already rusted.

CLR and Iron Out has chelating agents that will actually bind to the iron allowing it to be removed with water.
