Do you see any problem with this? Although my manual doesn't recommend it I wish to change the filter every other 5k oil change using dino.

Or would it be better to use a premium plus to 5k?

I read somewhere it was okay in the older days because the oil didnt clean as well, therefore, leaving less dirt for the filter to catch.

It's probably ok, but running the premium plus(or whatever they're called now)and changing it at 5k seems like a better option if your concerned about the filter cost.

I would be confident in a PureOne holding out that long. I run my Amsoil EAO filters for 20K KM (12K miles) without issue and could probably go longer.

Can't recall which member stated that info directly from Purolator indicated that the PureONE was good for 15K OCIs. I'll see if a search turns anything up.

Edit - did a search and can't find it. Maybe someone else can.

Not sure if this means the PureONE is good for 15K OCIs or not, but they show if you drive 15K+/year to choose the PureONE.

Email Purolator and get some clarification what that means.

Note this statement from Purolator:
"Get your Purolator Classic oil filter today and help keep your vehicle running smooth. Look for Purolator Classic oil filters in a new blue package at your favorite local retailer coming soon. You'll find the same quality product ... with a new look!"

Sounds like the Classic model is going from white to blue in color soon.

What time span is 10k reached? If it's in a year, then I'd say you're fine. If it's over 2 years and you do 5k a year. No.

I went extreme to give you the proper perspective. Your main filter loading materials are produced during fuel enrichment. Less fuel enrichment miles compared to total miles, longer filter life.

Can we assume you're doing 10k/year? That's pretty much limbo land for me on higher priced filter. Below it ..change the oil and filter every 6months and go as cheap as you please. Above it ..go with 6 months on the oil and 1 year on the filter and go as expensive as you please.

There are some terms and conditions to that, but it fits the vast majority of daily drivers. The more miles you do on a given sump, the merit of a finer filter makes more sense. You're not refreshing the sump as often. Or rather, if you're refreshing the sump often enough, the aspects of finer filtration are somewhat neutralized. That's why if you should get your money's worth out of any filter. To make a $6 PureOne work out over a $3 Classic, you need to get double the mileage out of it.

I think you qualify for this extended usage if 10k is accumulated in 1 year or less.

Why contaminate 4 1/2 qts. of clean oil with 1/2 qt. of dirty oil? Go with a good synt. and do the whole OC at 10,000 miles.

The Classic is still white, but has a new Blue box. The gasket on the base plate is also now pre-lubricated. The writing on the filter is slightly different and seems more shiny as well. But the filter is still white

... I mis-read the statement on Purolator's website. It's just the package that's changing color.

Where's that pic?
and isn't this great! we're all asking to see pictures of the PACKAGING for an oil filter - but no one shares photos of kids!

also, is this why marketing types make so much coin?
"let's just change the color of the box - that'll create buzz and up our sales!"
