Run factory fill until recommended 10K OCI?

Is it ok to run the factory fill of TGMO to 10K(assuming the factory fill is TGMO)in a 2013 Rav4 or should I drain it early due to engine break-in?

I would go at least 5K miles before changing it out. FF is loaded with additives... If it was mine, I would do the 5K then change it.

I have 3 Toyotas and am still on the models that go 5000 OCI. when I get a newer one I will go 5000. I also drain the FF at 1000-1500. Toyota has a great reputation for building good engines. But they also have a long standing reputation for extending the OCI's on engines and turning them into sludge monsters. My 2008 Rav4 4cyl is one of the "oil burners" that has the TSB piston oil holes & ring issues. However since it has had a steady diet of Pennzoil Platinum 5w20@5000 OCI since new it doesn't consume more than 1/3 quart in 5000 yet.(80k).

So any Toyota or Lexus I buy will get synthetic oil Pennzoil Platinum or Quaker State Ultimate Durability every 5000 miles. I just do not trust the 10k OCI

Only Hondas have the FF additives. Toyota has factory bulk oil.

I dont trust the 10K OCI either, but if you are running QS full synthetic, why just 5000? I would think you go easily stretch that to 7500 OCI!

Yes, it's fine. My dad went 10k on the ff with his 2012 Camry. Now has 40k miles on it and doesn't consume any measurable amount of oil. It runs very smooth. No worries.

If manufacturer says its fine, then it should be however I can't help myself and do a early drain/fill and then a few short OCIs after that thinking of I don't want the oil to be too depleted/loaded.

Every new vehicle I purchased had FF out at 1000, then 2500-3000 for 2nd change. 3rd was 5000 K OCI then started doing 7500-10000 OCI.

Does it say 10k absolute?
Or something like "do not exceed 10k", or "follow the OCI or up to 10k"?

It is usually 10k or 1 year, that is how it is worded it my Scion manual. Unless you meet certain conditions.

Dealer wants me to return at 5k for tires and a maintenance check.

Basically short tripping(repeated less than 5 mile trips in 0F)
Towing
Dusty & dirt roads
Excessive idling/low speed

If you primarily(IE over 75%) drive in this way that yes Toyota requires you to change the oil every 5k miles. If you do not than you can wait til 1 year/10k miles which ever comes first.

So leave it in until 5k miles at least.

I change the oil in my 2010 fj cruiser every year if it needs it or not. Stopped changing my own oil the year I bought it. I have a few black stone sample kits and spare oil around I will never need.
Fine engines, fine oil.
