ru glyde or soapy water

Hi,

I need to install some new weather seals (rubber) on my 82 MB. They fit into a channel which has some adhesive in it.

I need to lube them a bit so that I can easily get them in. Is Ru Glyde a good product to purchase to do this, or is it really the same as soapy water?

Since Ill be using adhesive in some spots (which smells to be heavily cut with some kind of solvent), do I need to fear the glyde stuff or water or anything, particularly since the track will effectively be sealed with the rubber and adhesive?

mmmmm interesting! I'm interested in this. I really need new weather strip on my 88

The stuff that meets at the front windows is all cracked badly......and all along the "active" edge of the window, it's actually completely "off".....only towards the front of the window do I have any "weather strip" left.

And it drives me crazy, cause as I drive, particularly on [censored] roads, the vibrations in the road cause the window to shake and vibrate against the door panel......can't be good for the glass


Is this a DIY project you're doing? Or taking it in?

My best results on any rubber molding/weatherstripping has been a little bit of soapy water on the sides and the adhesive lightly on the back of the weather stripping and some on the metal/plastic. Soapy water and LOTS of patience is my recommendation.

So you have soapy water and adhesive on the same part, and adhesive in the track where the soaped part will sit? The soapy water does not affect the adhesive's ability to work?

Apply glue [if necessary].
Judiciously lube with a small brush or Qtip on the rail.
