TBN = 1.0 Looks like you reached the limit on how long you can run this particular oil. I would have expected a bit more.

RP actually did a fine job.

Dirt ingression, and poor quality Malaysian fuels are the issue.

We need to get Ian some FP !

Trendwise, I'd say the wear looks normal for your longer interval this time round. The Pb and Sn confirm it is bearing wear but that was happening even with your previous UOA. Did you do any TB or IAC valve cleaning during this interval? Are you using the 90915-10004 Toyota oil filter? A simple visual check of the TB plate will reveal whether you have a dirt ingress problem from your air filter. e.g. at 15,000km mine was still clean as a whistle. Was your oil sampled midstream during oil drain after hot shutdown? i.e. drain, wait 10secs, then collect sample. It's nice to see that the RP 10w30 doesnt thin out. And the soot number seem to indicate it cleans pretty well too. TBN of 1.0 shows that you changed the oil right on time. RP has never been a long life oil, so dont go more than 10k / 6months with this oil. The 2AZ-FE is pretty hard on oil, oil temps are high, and with that in mind RP did pretty well.

The FP and LC are not available in this region. Have tried to ask the guys if they can give us some 'free' samples so that we can try to test-market it here first. Been told that we have to pay for shipping, so now asking for the cost of shipping to assess.

Ken,

I tend to agree with you, that the RP is doing a pretty good job in the 2AZ-FE, considering that this engine is hot-running. I am actually surprised at the TBN of 1.0. Did see another RP10W30 in a Corolla G9 that has a TBN of 2.0 for a mileage of 6,1.08miles or 9,830km.

On TB or IAC valve cleaning, this was not done during this interval. The Valve Cover Gasket was changed when this RP was put in. OIl filter is the 90915-10004 Toyota oil filter.

The oil was sampled midstream during oil drain after hot shutdown. (i.e. drain, wait 10secs, then collect sample)

Agree!!!

Different labs will likely yield different results. Read here. That's why it's important to stick to the same lab for better trending.

Does that mean that the results from some other labs are not reliable/accurate?

With just the information posted I would choose the "A" Lubromoly oil over the "B" Royal Purple in this application.

Hmmm... do take note that the mileage on both oils are different, a difference of close to 3,000km.

I would like to see the UOA for the current RP10W30, before I have a better assessment of two oils.

I think one thing you can take from this comparison is that your engine prefers a 40 weight oil, seems to be the biggest difference along with the miles. I would have been good to see a comparison using the same viscosities if possible.

One thing about the TBN, some of the oil analysis companies get thrown off with ester based synthetic fluids, particularly when you send in a sample which has some of the old oil mixed with the new oil formula. It throws off the calibration of their equipment, at least that's what I've been told on some of my samples.

Unfortunately, I only got to do UOA, after trying my first pack of RP10W30. Unlikely to go back to 40wt, due to (1) my often start-stop driving conditions 5 days a week, (2) hot running engine.

On the comparison of the diff wt oils, I am likely to continue with the RP10W30 for my next oil change to have at least three UOA readings. Afterwhich, likely oil would be the Castrol SLX A3. Not really decided yet, due to RP can allow me to buy 5 packs for the 4.3litres required for the engine, wheareas I would have to leave four-fifths of a 4 litre pack lying around for the SLX as they come in 4 litre pack only.

Had very bad experience with the Esso petrol kiosk at the Second Link, just before getting into Malaysian customs, back to Singapore. Other guys in the Toyota Singapore forum also reported similar experiences.... 'tainted' petrol.....

A lot of the guys from AROC Singapore and Mycarforum recommend Petronas. It is their national brand with their govt interests. Not very good if the petrol is tainted. So far, everyone reports consistent results. Anyway, a 55% discount on default thanks to the exchange rate, can't complain much.

Hi Genie47,

I agree. Nowadays, when I am on way back from Malaysia, will only go to the last Petronas on the 2nd Link. At least no past bad experience. Also, shorter (or no) queue as compared to the stream of cars at Esso.
