Which one would you rather put in yoru engine? I wonder if Group IV RP (Synerlec, or with Synerlec) is equal to Mobil 1 SuperSyn Group V, which afaic is only in 15W-50 or maybe 0W-40, and 0W-40 is considered to be M1's "best" Oil.. right?

This isnt for my car, i thought about a higher zddp oil at one time and asked myself this.... me personally im pretty much "set" with what oil to use (hi miles, point blank, nothin fancy) this just a musing befor ei got it all cleared up on whats best for my SuperSlow, fast looking and sounding car

superfast no dis respect intended here, but i`m honestly surprised that v-6 has lasted this long. they were not one of the generals better motors.i.e very underpowered/overworked. i would just use Pennzoil conventional or Castrol GTX and call it a day. your putting way too much thought into this.

Did you read the original post? He said it's not for his car; he's already decided what to use.

"Synerlec" and "SuperSyn" are just trade names.

That said, I'd lean toward Mobil 1 0W-40. It's a good oil with lots of industry approvals. Not that it's applicable for my car anyway.

I didn't mean to come off as snippy, although reading my post again, I did. Sorry!

SuperFast - Please Answer Me: Did you replace the intake manifold gasklet on this engine yet?
BTW, guys, this is a good engine. I had an S-10 short box, X-11 and a gen-3 'vega-maro' and thse cars did just fine in the day with the manual trans. Even the fiero with the 6 was a goer - dont disrespect this engine. I could see some dog comments if you had a Blazer with the intake ports 1/2 filled to improve mileage - they were wheezers. Nice motor. I would take this over a Nissan v6 anyday. Yes I owned a Maxima 5m.

From what I've gathered these are two marketing terms that don't equate with each other.

Synerlec = sulferized ester, an anti-wear additive
SuperSyn = high viscosity PAO, a correction fluid

Mobil 1 0W-40 is the proven oil, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is better than RP 0W-40. There just isn't a lot of good info out there on RP 0W-40 yet.

NP ARCO. I got the pictures i owe you too, i was unsure if youwere still wanting to see them of the V-6 and my duct tape on air check valve ?

Short answer would be "no" and im a little bit weary of taking it to recommended shop and just saying "please change my IMG" and they didnt even look at the car, i do not know if that is how its done
as to your first post, i am not quite sure what you are referring to and i am new at cars and getting know my car and all oil
I dont *believe* my Intake Manifold has blown. i smell gas when the car is off, sitting, from the froont. If i knew signs to look for, i could tell you if my IMG has blown.

i have the pictures if you want, too
is this ok shall i PM them to you ? (of engine/car)

sorry i just got around to checking this
im "restoring" the car to 100% use its in fairly good shape
plz let me know than you

As to the question of "Synerlec vs Supersyn," no i dont intend to use either M1 or RP in my car it was just a question, thank you and sorry for the confusion ?

lexus114 im using High Mileage oil in my car, im not going to use either remember the terms from my microanalysis of all oils and im still stuck on 5W30 or 10W30 or take it up to 10W-40 i hear good things about all three grades. no indirect question here

i can show you the pics of the car if you like again but that has nothing to do with compare and contrast supersyn of Mobil 1 with Synerlec of Royal Purple

i got real good advice from electrolover i might just use 10W-40 and be done with it, this question wasnt about my car.

agreed!

i have owned and built many fieros. the 2.8 is a great engine. the only problem is getting enough oil to the rods at high rpms which can be fixed by cross drilling the mains.
btw the 2.8 in the s10 is slightly different than the camaro and fiero. the fiero and camaro have veins in the cylinder head intake ports to increase flow as well as slightly larger valves.
top speed in a fiero was 140 mph at 6000 rpms in 1986-88. not bad for 140 hp engine!! i logged many long trips over 30 miles at a constant 140 mph. good engines! all the 60 deg v6s are!

is this why you suggested 5w30 before i try 10W-40??

presently using 10w30 hi-mi, works well

had a day of revving/burnouts, still works good, time for TLC now. It IS a camaro so i had my fun with it
