Rotor Question

I would also do a bed in procedure if the manufacturer makes note of it on the box. Reguardless I do on most new rotor/ pad installs, and have been problem free.

I think the common misconception with a rotor being warped is excess uneven pad build up on the rotor. It's pretty hard to warp a street use rotor. I've had very good luck with your standard duralast and duralast gold pads. Not to mention the PFC Z rated pads. I love the Hawk HPS pads also.

I don't see any problem using the disc brake quiet (the RTV like substance) stuff on the pads. I've used it on practically all of the brake jobs I've done, and again had no issues. Is there some problem I'm not aware of (maybe a recent thread I missed) about using the stuff?

yeah i wanted to get hawk pads but they were 15$ more and do not have a lifetime warrany like the PFC (autozone) ones have.. if they get squirrly just take them off and get some new ones for free. not a bad deal considering i drive 30k miles or more a year and pull a boat every now and then.... i talked with the guy that will do them and yes he will grease what he needs to grease and etc..i trust these people, they have been around for years and years and have good prices too.. thats if i dont do it myself. so this is what i am getting

brembo blank rotors
PFC (autozone) lifetime pads.

Yeah, there were a few threads about it recently. Mainly, the RTV like disc brake quiet can cause shim separation on shimmed brake pads. More and more OEMs and pad manufacturers now prefer the grease on the shimmed pads to allow more pad "movement." The disc brake quiet stuff is still OK to use if your pad does not come with ANY shim, but how often do you find a car with that type of pad?

Don't forget, labor isn't free.

Critic, Gotcha. I will take that into future consideration. Would be one less thing for me to have to buy when I run out anyways.
