Rotella T6 5w40

Thinking about running Rotella T6 5w40 in my 2002 Honda Civic and my 1998 Toyota Tacoma, anybody have any experience with this oil in these vehicles?
 
I'm running Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 in my 00 Tacoma at the moment. Not T6, but similar. Its a little sluggish when cold, but she sure is quiet.
 
Yeah I was already pretty sold on running it in my taco, just worried about it being thick for my civic, but wanting to run it because it seems to be an awesome oil
 
My neighbor has a 2005(?) Acura J series manual 6 speed that is spec'd for 5W-20. He is an Aussie transplant and laughs at thin oil recommendations for cars in the US. He has used Rotella 5W40 for the life of all his vehicles he has purchased in the states. He has over 160K miles without an engine problem on his Acura. He called me over to look at his valve train when he did 150k mile service and his engine had absolutely no sludge or varnish. He said his OCI's were at 10K miles. I don't think Honda engines are fussy about oil.
 
While T6 is a great oil, I would still run what the owners manual calls for. You most likely will see a slight decrease in gas mileage if you run a 5W40 vs what is called for, probably a xW30.
 
Run it with confidence and be rewarded with a quiet engine and much better protection vs the "water" 20W Honda suggests. Don't let thicker oils scare you, they've been around forever and work, plain and simple!

Right now I have Rotella T5 10W30 in my CR-V and it runs great!, much quieter than any 5W20 or 5W30 ever was and fuel economy is unchanged.
 
Well, it will work. It's good oil. But it's much thicker than necessary for those engines. Run a good 5w30. M1 High Mileage is one I would suggest for engines of those years.

Do you have any particular problem with the engines you are trying to solve with a different oil?
 
Next oil change, I'm going to run the T6 in my 2000 Accord. I think it will be fine for your accord. Go for it & enjoy

I've run T6 5W40 in my old Neon when I was thrashing the tar out of it for autocross. It still runs fine.
I guess if you want to run extended intervals and want to give the engine a little cleaning, then T6 5W40 would work for that.
Pennzoil 5w30 conventional would probably work as well.
 
I appreciate all the replies and no it has no problems besides burning a very slight amount of oil like all Hondas and a kinda noisy drive train at idle, but really I just liked the extra additives the Rotella seems to have and I was trying to just use one oil for all my vehicles
 
Rotella should quiet the valve train. If the engine is in good repair all you will hear is the injectors. It should clean up any sludge or varnish accumulated, if any. I may well do a run in the summer. I use Rotella in my lawn mower without any complaints, another plus.

Point taken. It is hard to find analysis with Rotella 5W40 oils in Honda engines. Here is an analysis done in 2012. It appears to be a "newer" version run to 10K miles in a Honda. I don't know if it is the current version of Rotella 5w-40. The additive package more closely resembles the current Rotella 5W40. Lower Ca and high Mg are in this analysis. I don't the difference in base stocks. Wear numbers are exceptionally low and the oil did not shear.

Yeah this Honda is an 2002 with the d17 and is non v-tech, the car specs for 5w20 but before the cafe stepped in the same engine was rated for 5w30 so technically I'm just stepping one grade up, and I daily commute about 20 miles up the interstate at 3500 rpm and I think the T6 will protect better than the 20wts will
 
i don't use the rosmella, but the Valvoline Premium blue 5w40 in everything i own, some of which are 93 toyota 22re, 04 cummins, 12 civic, 15 can0am Commander, 15 crf450, 01 cr250, log splitter, etc. it's a fine oil and change at 10-15K miles with no ill effects.
