Nope.

2009-2010 Ecoboost 3.5 all are spec'ed for 5w20 (never back-spec'ed to 5w30)
2011+ Ecoboost 3.5 are all 5w30

Not sure about the 1.0/1.6/2.0 units, but I thought they were all 5w30.

So in this case, just put in a good 5w30.

They go for:
Turbocharger - $820.00 or $754 (depending on which side)

This was from www.fordparts.com, which are genuine Motorcraft units. Not dirt cheap but not outrageous.

No, if anything I'd use an oil like Mobil 1 0w-40 if you just have to deviate from the OEM spec. It is designed for high performance (and turbocharged) gasoline engines and has numerous Euro approvals for exactly that: durability and performance in this type of engine.

Whatever you can get in 5w30

Why are you running something as thick as a 5w40? (HTHS of 4.1ish)

That motor is spec'd for something far lighter.

So to answer your question, I wouldn't use either.

I wouldn't...

Agree, especially at the $25 Walmart price.

Despite the inevitability of this recommendation it is nearly perfect for this application.

It's a bit lighter than the typical 40w, cheap and plentiful, seems nearly perfect to me...

Ford calls for thin motor oil but I do run T6 in the 429 Ford engine in the truck but more because it has flat tappets. Mobil 1 High Mileage is about as good as it gets for used gas engines so it it is good for turbos check out that option.

When at 200F and draining both weights run like tap water. I suggest the Fumoto drain valve to keep from getting burned.

Both dubious claims at best. Pretty sure turbos use journal bearings as ball bearings are not suitable for the 100-200k rpm rotational speeds, and I'll bet ford has been making turbocharged engines elsewhere for decades.

Feel free to prove me wrong. But I think you're going off the hook on misconceptions...
