I run SAE 30 Delo 400 CH-4 in my Tecumseh powered mower, seems good, change it once a year, I thought a Briggs would run on just about any non-detergent motor oil you put in it!

I agree, it'll probably run ok if you filled it with WD-40.
But since Shell SAE 30 used to be SJ/CF, CF-2- would that indicate a formula change,

or did Shell elect not to get is gasser approved??

I run B&S approved SJ oil in my car. Good stuff, NOT cheap.

"Shell Rotella T1 oils can provide dependable lubrication for small-to-medium-powered agricultural equipment,
such as tractors. Also suitable for many low/medium-powered stationary applications such as diesel-powered
water pumps, generators, etc."

I was under the assumption that you could run it on any type of oil, such as 10w30 5w30,etc

I believe that the SJ classification was scheduled to be dropped from the API certification list this year. It is probably the same formula but API no longer supports the SJ listings. Check the API web site. FWIW Oldtommy
