I thought RTS was strait-up G-III wax isomerate and would be ok for seal-setting with ARX. Now, I saw someone claim it was G-III plus esters. I am going through extra pita oil changes to set seals and want to do it correctly. I know dino is recommended, but Rotella Synth should be good and I have it here already. Can someone peek at the MSDS and make an educated guess. My computer now handles pdfs correctly, but I don't know the CAS#s or someone might simply know offhand.

Since the oil is labled as synthetic, I would guess the additives themselves have an Esterized carrier for solvency. I'm still learning here but it seems dino oil usually use additives with a grp.I carrier and the afforementioned synthetic uses Ester carriers. So, just assume the Rotella syn has some Ester content and thus you should use a rinse oil with a groupII+ or less base. May I suggest chevron Delo400 in a 10w-30 weight? That is what I am using as a rinse oil in both a 94 Z28 and a 2001 F250 with a 7.3 PSD.

Hard to tell. Maybe you should talk directly to Terry as he'd probably have the best idea.

I'm not an expert, but from reading that.. It looks like 90-98% Grp III and 1.01% - 10% add-pack content. If it does have ester content, your looking at less than 10%. FWIW

I don't know how you see a clear bill, the amount of possible ester content for solvency could still be enough to cause clashing with the Esters in the Auto-RX. Let's say the RTS is 90% GRP.III and the other 10% is the additives. Now let's say you need 5 quarts of RTS. Using an arbitrary guess of 60% of the additives are carrier oil and assuming they are Esters, that would make 6% of RTS as being Ester. So, of 160 ounces of RTS, 9.6 ounces of RTS could be Ester. So now you have 9.6 ounces of Ester competing with 12 ounces of Auto-RX. Then again, maybe there is none and I have said all this for nothing, but considering that I would want to gain the full benefit of Auto-RX, I would use a "safe bet" dino choice. BTW, I personally have a LT1 Z28 that has used Synthetic oil since it's first oil change and is now in a Auto-RX rinse cycle and I went the "safe bet" route with Chevron Delo400 consisting of 4 quarts 10w-30 & 1 quart 15w40. If I can sacrifice and use Dyno for a rinse cycle in my LT1, you can too.

I maybe should have used some GTX 10w-40. I need a 40 weight, so most dino oils are out. I need cold-cranking too, so 10w dino is out. Who knows what has esters anymore as far as GF-4 semis go? I figured RTS was a safe bet as it relies on it's base oil for much of it's properties. The add amounts suggested in the PDS seem minimal to me..part of 5%? I am only doing 2nd rinse cycle now, no direct competition with ARX esters.

Unless the RDS company has changed this primarily group III oil use it with confidence in a RX cleaning. As a matter of fact I recommend its use with RX for many of my customers doing a cleaning and wanting a 5w-40 HDD oil.

Oil companies are telling us as little as possible from the MSDS now. Almost useless for determining the product components.

The Chevron 10w-30 Delo is also a good choice as Hammer has suggested.
