This is from my brother's car. He's registered on BITOG but doesn't post much.

All three OCIs shown here are on RLI BioSyn 0w-30. The most recent is highlighted. The bottom (third) row shows the old formulation, before they increased the amount of antimony.

Previous interval discussed here (follow the links for more details on the car): https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=157682&Number=2315315

This was another nearly 14k mile run on this 8600 RPM, >100 hp/L engine with a 4.2-quart sump (stock except for intake and exhaust). Fuel dilution has again increased, as did oil consumption (~1 qt/2300 mi average) -- yet the oil is still okay and wear metal indicators continue to fall.

The air filter has NOT been changed since the last interval, and is now something like 60k miles old. Given that, the silicon number is amazing. Score one more for Amsoil EaAU filters.

There was a Mobil 1 oil filter and magnetic drain plug.

You may note that additive metal levels have dropped. This does not appear to be a mistake. The current levels of calcium, zinc, and phosphorus are now near what the virgin oil should have had (per my discussions with RLI). The reason they were higher in previous OCIs is probably that the previous oil (Motul 8100 X-Lite 0w-30) was being cleaned out.

I have received repeated assurances that it's okay for the TAN to read higher than TBN with this oil, so we are not concerned about that.

This oil continues to impress. I don't think one could ask for more.

Amazing run, esp with that engine. I sure wouldn't do it if that was my Type R but I guess with these results, I'd sleep easy at night as well.

Ridiculous. I just put this in about 800 miles ago.

High TAN is probably fine since this is ester-based and has a higher virgin TAN. My 300V UOA came back with TAN > TBN (about 20%).

Yeah, that's awful!!!

Yup. No way around that with this kind of fuel dilution unless we switch to a thicker oil.

It really seems as though the engine's state of tune is the limiting factor on OCIs with this engine. While we're incredibly pleased that the oil made it for this many miles, I don't think either of us is inclined to push it any further without a good tune...

Remember folks that Terry's lab uses a different flash point method (closed cup vs open cup) than Blackstone & results in lower numbers. Not that this result is great or anything, but it's not as bad as if it came back from Blackstone as 270°F.

How much make up oil was added during this OCI? 5 quarts?

I thought the report was good, too.

Perhaps cut it back to 12,000 miles and call it a day if continuing to use the same oil, no racing/similar conditions and service seen.

Thereabouts, if I recall correctly. I'll have to ask him for the exact number.

^^ Hmmmmm, all that fresh oil added during the OCI, and TBN still dropped down to 1.5 ! Anyone know the starting TBN?

Starting TBN in this formulation is not high. As I recall, it's 6-7 or thereabouts.

Correction to previous posts: Total oil added was 7.5 liters, which means consumption is around 1 qt/1750 mi. Significant difference from the OP.

Also, as with the previous interval, this one included a round trip to (and lots of hard driving at) the Tail of the Dragon.

Whole moly! He's going to spend more on oil and analyses than the freaking car is worth! That much consumption and that few of miles on such an expensive oil is out-of-this-world foolish!

I'm not saying his high-revving engine doesn't need something stout, but RLI is hard to stomach with kind of consumption and short interval!

I'm having trouble finding a way to express how fantastically uninteresting your opinion is on how money should be spent on this car. If I figure something out, I'll post back.

Regarding your stomach: As long as we're in the mood for unsolicited personal advice, I'm sure your doctor would be happy to help you with that. Good luck.

I think gathermewool's premise is valid, this is a very expensive boutique oil to be burning up every 1750 miles. I wouldn't spend my money this way. But to each his own, I guess.
