I did not even know he was sick (was it hep related from his early mainlining days which finally caught up with him, or alcohol cirrhosis caused??).

When asked of musicians their most influential group most would think the Beatles, but it turns out The Velvet Underground were the most influential later performers.Lou Reed certainly was an influence on me in the early '70's.
