Len Dawson, a Pro Football Hall of Famer as both a quarterback and a broadcaster, has died at the age of 87, according to his family.

A top flight QB who won two Super Bowls. And a decent human being around the community from what I understand.

Living in Omaha at the time you were either a Chiefs fan or a Bears fan. I was only in grade school but remember watching a lot of Chiefs games with my dad and uncles.

Beating the Vikings in that AFL NFL playoff game was a big deal for the AFL. It was the last year before they merged and the Super Bowl was born.

He played until he was 41 which was big deal back then.

The league had a ton of great quarterbacks back then and many got more publicity than Dawson. Joe Namath, Bart Starr, Roman Gabriel, Sonny Jurgenson to name a few.

Dawson was very accurate in his passing.

I loved him on HBO's Inside the NFL. He was perfect for that show. Inside The NFL pre-dated ESPN and the 24 hour sports networks, and was relevant well after they became established. It was worth watching because of Len Dawson. I saw it probably twice after he left.

Then there is this iconic photo from the sideline at halftime of the first Super Bowl. He is a Kansas City legend. RIP Lenny the Cool.

I mainly know him from one of the best NFL shows ever; the 80's Inside the NFL on HBO. He was really a good host on a no-nonsense no-clowning show unlike what we have today...
