So I just installed new OEM ball joints(AKA tie rod ends) on my Cub LTX1042KW. I did so because the wheel alignment LOOKED to be really far off spec, and the original joints tiny rubber boots are long gone. Of course I didn't bother actually measuring the alignment beforehand.
There is quit a lot of play in the steering shaft and sector/pinion gear but don't know if it can be adjusted out. Probably not by the looks of things.
The spec for my mower is 1/16-5/16" toe in. With pushing the front edges of the wheels inward towards each other I am showing 1/16".
Is it that critical to get the wheels close to spec? I guess one would want to get them close as possible but the slop in the steering shaft says otherwise. Do any of you dial it in or just say close enough?
