retrieving obd codes from 94 maxima...

checked all over the net with no results. how do you retrieve them?

On the diagnostic terminal, jump TE1 and E1 [paperclip or similar].
Read the dash MIL light for codes. Key on, I believe.

TE1 and E1? how do i know which is which? where do i find it?

There should be a cover on the multi pin port. It should be marked as to which pins are what number.
Kinda like a fuse box is marked which is which.

There are no TEI AND E1 pins to jump in the Max. These were in pre-obd-2 Toyotas. If you are on a tight budget the easiest thing to do is to go to Advance Auto and they will retrieve the codes for nothing. You get the codes and I will be happy to help. Pm me if you need any help.

Good point - many auto parts stores do this for free.
