That and other things. Italians have high rates of Diabetes from the high carb diets.

I've never heard that before. I usually hear Italians are healthier due to the Mediterranean diet

Having eaten in Europe I have come to the conclusion that most restaurants in the US are in a race to the bottom.

All the dishes looked fantastic, but way on the small side compared to the states.
Perhaps that's why we are so fat in the USA?

Way small? Really? Some look huge. The look fine to me, plus probably multiple courses. I think it's American eye tuning.

That is many calories many many! Probably 1000 calories. Plus more than 20 noodles and it’s probably a pasta course anyway. It takes awhile to recalibrate but the pasta alone there is 50+ grams of carbohydrates

A few pictures of the eats from my Italy and Greece trip this summer.

When going to touristy areas, research the restaurants further away from the attractions. The lines will be shorter and they restaurants will be more genuine. We went to many that were a block or 2 away and we knew we were in good company because the locals were eating there and it was pretty apparent we were outsiders.

Did you see any Americanized restaurants with an Italian twist? There's an American guy in Vietnam who married a local I think. He opened a traditional American bbq joint and according to the local population it's "exotic" and different.
