reservoirTurkey baster and power steering

does the power steering fluid on a car circulate much? That is, if you cnage whats in the container/reservoir is there any mixing that happens while the engine runs? or does the liquid in the container just sit there and not mix much?
 
The pump from a shampoo bottle or equivalent works A LOT better than a Turkey baster...
 
If the reservoirs old, Id probably recommend replacing it. Most time they house the filter, no sense in putting fresh clean fluid through a dirty filter. Drain at the rack, and refill to get most out.

Recommend you baste with Maxlife Dex/Merc ATF. Seal conditioners, cleaners, semi-syn. I've had no problems at all in the old Camry. Great in cold weather.
 
Circulates very rapidly - if you would like to see how rapidly, try doing a flush: disconnect the return hose, put it in a container, and try to keep up with refilling the reservoir while the engine is at idle (hint - you can't pour it fast enough...).

If it's a MB, or a few other Euro car makes, it might have a filter, but except for MB, I've never seen a filter on a PS system in the 20+ cars I've owned...

I use this method as well. Works great! BUT,be very careful not to spill any on your paint. It will eat it like acid.
 
I have been doing the TB method for many years with M1 ATF. I TB the PS pump and master cyl every engine OC.

1986-1989 Honda Accords had a filter built into the lower half of the reservoir. Honda did away with it in the 1990 model year. My 89 Accord shop manual indicated that the reservoir needed to be replaced any time the system was opened. My 30+ year experienced Honda mechanic said he NEVER replaced one. He recommended backflushing with solvent, which I did when rebuilding the P/S pump (replacing the internal seals was about all that involved).

seconded, used a windex shooter and was very convenient.
 
I had an idea I have yet to test. I had bought a baster but thought it would end up messy.

So, I went to Tractor Supply Store and got some clear tubing, and one of the large syringes they sell for giving livestock medicine. The syringe end goes in nice and snug into the tubing. I'll cut a length of tubing and hook it up to the syringe. It will hopefully have less potential to make a mess than the baster method. We'll see.

Its full syn according to Valvoline.

i know especially since fluids will eat away the rubber from the baster

Sounds like a worthwhile and cost effective method to me. I had one of those cheap, red transfer pumps. It worked great until it quit working. I then picked up one of those grease gun style transfer pumps. It's a little more unwieldly and the hoses are a bit larger than I'd like, but it still works.
