So Sunday was sunny and warm and I got to wash and wax the truck.
First, using the foam gun does use more soap then just hand washing ( used about 8 oz vs the 2-3 for bucket wash). However this was for 3 applications:

Rinse off, foam, rinse off, foam and wash with mitt, rinse off, foam (in sections)and nanoskin, rinse off.

Probably overkill but this was the first thorough washing after a long winter season.
Foaming did seem to float some of the dirt away so seems to be a plus so far.
As with using concentrated soap or detail spray you can tell immediately if there's not enough foam lubrication on the surface.
I should add that I first cleaned the wheels and tires too. So I have a clean shiny truck sitting in the driveway this morning.

I have a Gilmore device. Hooks straight to the hose. A simple wand is the way to go if you have a pressure washer.

I use it once a year for the spring cleaning. I think it has some marginal advantage in situations like that.
