agreed. It is very nice. not just because it is easier but because it is then really clear to whom and what you are responding. This has become muddy on this board as people struggle with various adhoc practices.
For example, I just scrolled down to confirm who started this thread just so that i could cut and paste a credit like
"59 Vetteman said:"

There are times when I look in the mirror and wonder why I start some topics. This one is the best example of I should have broken my two typing fingers. Not even 2 weeks old and the long replys with quote are starting. You can select most any thread and find it. I was just on this one and it is an example:
It really does not use any more bandwidth, just more space on the screen.

You are correct, it is not the bandwidth that I am worried about. It is the long thread with 2-5 quotes in it and a short one or two line reply.
I am hoping that if we keep this up front as a reminder, then most will try to keep the quotes short.
Why is this such an issue? This is the nature of forums and people. Some people will quote less and some will quote more. It is no trouble to scan past the parts of a quote you do not want to read.
I participate in multiple forums and while I love being a member here I have to admit BITOG is the most picky when it comes to what most consider very minor issues on other forums.
My opinion is to let it run and accept we will see the full spectrum of usage. It is a useful feature.
Is there any way to selectively withdraw the ability to Reply with Quote from those who've demonstrated an unwillingness to use restraint?
I'd be inclined to leave the feature intact, despite some abuse. Many of us are still going to quote from time to time, and from what we've seen over the last several months (i.e. awkward attempts to RWQ manually), I'd rather see the clean consistency of the "auto" RWQ feature, rather than the scattered variety of botched attempts to do it manually.
