My wife, ever trying to be helpful, took my 2015 CRV in for a oil change while I was away on business. She took the CRV to a local shop who performed an oil change but instead of using 0w20 she selected the "standard" oil change which consists of non synthetic QS 5w20. The weather is warm here now, I don't drive my CRV hard or under load, nor is my commute very long (10km each way). Am I OK to keep the oil as is and change it 5000KM or 6 months from now and go back to 0w20 for next winter or is this something that I should change immediately?

What part specifically are you worried about? Your CRV does not require synthetic oil in your owner's manual. It allows it but does not require it.

Honda's will be fine with QS 5w20 as long as its not extremely cold. My current 2008 and former 2012 acuras do not even state synthetic is a requirement for the oil changes. My local dealer uses bulk non synth 5w20. For one OCI you will be just fine. If its going to eat away at you, change it before the season.

Actually the 2015 manual states this vehicle takes only 0w20. doesn't mention other oil weights which concerned me

I run QS Conventional 5W-20 on a 5000 Mile OCI in my Ridgeline year round. You will be fine.

Synthetic is not a "spec"

Do Both oils meet API-SN/ILSAC GF5?

The "synthetic" is NOT really synthetic
and the "standard" has plenty of "synthetic" in it.

Does Honda require ACEA A5,B5?

BTW what is warm? Above -17C

haha its low to mid 50's here now lol!

And I just re-checked my user manual and indeed it only mentions using 0W20.

"xW-" is not a "weight" the xW-20 is the GRADE.

Choose W rating (Winter) by expected coldest unaided starting temp:

-30C for 5w and -35 for 0w

You'll be fine. Vancouver doesn't get that cold especially now. Hopefully they didn't charge your wife 0W-20 prices!

That just for infinitesimal mileage gains during warmup.

It is true though that SOME 0w have a larger VI.

They are more prone to doing BAD things to your engine IF extreme cold start is NOT a requirement, though, as the oil blend is a COMPROMISE to achieve certain spec.

Considering the average temperatures in Vancouver it won't make a difference winter nor summer. For my BMW which lives in northern Wisconsin where it gets to -30 deg F or lower, yes. But not for you.

As others have stated, the weight is 20. At operating temperature, the 0W and 5W will both have the same viscosity. No worries. Run it until it's due or it gets cold again.

Thanks guys! I was just a bit concerned about using plain old dino oil instead of the synthetic that Honda says it requires. I wasn't sure if direct injection engines required synthetic.

if i was u, i would keep what you got in there, thanks to your wifee, and change it out next month, i think waiting 6 months is too long, what is peace of mind worth

Too long for what?

5-20 won't hurt it. Go back to 0-20 synthetic at your next change. Curious as to how much your mpg drops.Keep us posted. Can you "feel" the difference in the oils on start up/warmup?

Sorry, you owner's manual does NOT say your CR-V requires synthetic oil. From your manual:

"You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certifi cation Seal
and is of the specifi ed viscosity grade."

That does not mean you are required to use synthetics, but can.

You're fine. Run the oil for your normal OCI and replace with whatever you want then. Thank the wife. She did you a nice gesture.
