The hole is right at 1/2 inch from the edge of the tread. I did go ahead and plug it. Would you run it or get a new tire?

Glitched and posted a second time can't figure out how to delete this comment all together 🤷

The tires are 7/32 rear 9/32 front.
The picture does look more worn that it really is though. Maybe it's the angle I took the picture. But the tread is in pretty good shape.

This is what I usually go by, since I buy tires from them anyway: https://www.discounttire.com/learn/tire-repair

I think 1/2" is right on the borderline of being patchable. If new tires aren't financially taxing, may as well get new tires. But since you've already patched it, air up your spare just in case and see how this patch fares. It's probably okay. In my younger and poorer days, I've had to drill/patch a tire a little closer to the edge than your pic and it held up for 2.5-3 years before it got worn out and replaced. I won't do that again these days but it worked back then.

Ok, yes they look more worn than they are..

I would get a patch on the inside and another plug. Better safe than sorry. Then I'd be comfortable with it.

I'd keep driving it and not give it a second thought.
I drive what most would consider aggressive, a habit I inherited from working in LE for a few years. I drive through corners pretty fast and get the G's up to or near their limits of the automobiles capabilities. For those reason I would need a patch inside the tire.

I'd run it. You have a spare, right?
I agree. Worst that can happen is you get another flat down the road. Now if it was a car I was doing some high performance driving or the sidewall was damaged I would replace but for normal everyday use I would repair and forget about it. Tire industry just wants to sell more tires.

I too have a tire (RT43 (H) ) that was patched with a plug and patch and it's getting near time to swap out from winter tires to A/S . Question is , would you use it or purchase 2 new tires because of possible failure ? Tires were purchased a year or 2 ago . There are speeds up to 70 M.P.H. on interstate .
