I was really impressed with the car. Looks and feels much better than the last generation. Exterior styling is awesome.

Overall I give this car a big thumbs up, and I do not hide my bias towards japanese cars, and less so German. Some of this may seem out of order due to the fact I can only edit at the top, once it scrolls out of the window, I am done.

I would almost say it drives similarly to my BMW 5 Series other than power delivery. Steering/Braking/suspension feel are similar as is interior noise. I had to verify that it was rear wheel drive after averaging over 30 miles per gallon at 79-80 miles per hour for 400 miles and a couple stops. For being the V6 it was not slow. It wasn't fast, but it wasn't slow like last years V6.

The guages were cool, you could rotate through oil temp/press/trans temp/water temp, etc. What was interesting was that below 3,500rpm the oil press was 38 dropping to 20 at idle. At 3,550 oil pressure jumps to 89 and would increase to over 100 near redline. I don't know if this gauge is accurate but is was interesting to watch.

Brakes were truly great. Interior was nice, 20 years ahead of last years. Dash was nice, overall styling is good.

Sound system was totally sufficient - better than many that I have heard. My only real gripe is the foot long gas pedal travel from top to bottom. Compared to what I am used to, you have to push the pedal really far to get it to move.

If the reliability on these stay up, this could be the next great american car. Maybe I will buy one with a V8 (or a SRT8)

Awesome! I hated the styling of the new one but it has since grown on me and I now truly love them. I have the same complaint about the gas pedal, it is just so awkward and you need to push it pretty far in to get it to go. Great review, glad it is getting good real world feed back.

P.S. the 3.5l isn't slow, it isn't fast but it isn't slow. I'd say its adequate for a 4000+ lb car, if I had the money and option to buy new though I certainly would have gotten it with the 5.7l.

Nice.

My bank account remains safe as long as Chrysler refuses to make a 3.6 Challenger with a 6 speed manual.

I`d gotten a 2011 Avenger as a rental/loaner a few months back. I was very impressed with it. It had the 4 cyl,and was very smooth, responsive, and had plenty of power. It had leather seats which were the most comfortable car seats I`d ever sat in. The leather was VERY thick and well made, yet soft as a Lazy Boy recliner. Car was smooth as silk on the highway, and drove very solid.

Very tested older gearbox straight out of the mercedes parts bin.

This trans has proven stout up to over 500 rwhp, so I don't think it's likely the V6 could strain it much!

Chrysler is important, and the Charger is vital to its rebirth. It's nice to read a positive review of it. Thanks for posting.

Are they using the 5 speed WA580 AT in it, or their 6 speed AT? The WA580 would be extremely hard to destroy and most likely will easily last the life of the car. The WA580 IMO is one of the better transmissions out there. Wish my Liberty had it.

If only people realized that Chrysler's rwd cars are completely different animals.

I was under the impression that '07 was the last year they used the benz 5 gear? Is it a different benz tranny? Or am I just wrong?

Good to hear that Chrysler's turning around! That Caliber I rented a while back was hideous. I'd love to give them another shot.

Sorry, they built a plant in 05/06 to make it. It's still hanging around behind the new 6.4 motors, a killer design.

A coworker has the srt8.. its pretty amazing. I always park next to her.. because I'm sure I wont get door dinged on at least that side ;P

with half my coworkers not giving a..poop and having 15 year old neons and rangers... mystery door dings are common.

They are still using the old 722.6 gear box? I love that transmission, AMG has proven its good for 700hp, and about 900ft pounds.

More torque than that and they don't hold up to well though.

sorry, but you are completely wrong. The trans is made in several variations, and is even used behind the MONSTER v12 Merc biturbo. Each one is significantly different internally. The version Chrysler licensed from Merc is perfectly fine up to 500 rwhp or thereabouts. After that a few simple mods and it goes much further, then the aftermarket steps in.

Note that Paramount drivetrains offers one with an UNLIMITED warranty, even racing. That one is running behind some nine second streeters right now.
