Rental car maintenance?

That has not been my experience. You just need to pick sedate vehicles not sports cars, nor SUVs in tourist locations where they'd be taken off-road.

You can generally expect a rental agency to change the oil often "enough" for how long they keep the vehicle, and that they didn't keep it long enough to necessarily do anything else to it.

My current 2017 Tucson was a rental. I bought it CPO, 1 y.o. with 13k miles.
I gave it a good looking over. Clean inside, out, and underneath.
Only thing I found was a small scratch on driver side B pillar trim and tires never rotated.
The oil looked new. Suspect the dealer changed it because it had a Hyundai filter.
I changed it after 3,000 miles.
It's been trouble free for two years so far.

I would not chance it.
Some companies are Penny pinchers.

Especially if you keep your vehicles.

When I worked at a tire store we got plenty of ERAC cars. All after the 16.95 oil change, and they somehow got a free tire rotation. Fleet deal or they knew how to game our system. Bulk 5w30 in everything. Lots of Chrysler 300s, remember those?

If you mean they're being sold by Toyota dealers with a Toyota-factory backed warranty for multiple years, it says a lot. That's huge actually. Take a look at most automaker's new car warranties. If the vehicle is used as a rental, most automakers throw the warranty out the window. If what you're saying about Toyota, and what I'm interpreting, Toyota has 100% confidence in some of the rental companies that use their vehicles.


FCA does the same thing. Our van was an ex-rental, bought it CPO from a dodge dealership. 7 year/100k Powertrain CPO warranty, which is actually better than the standard 5 year/60k powertrain warranty on new cars!

Not sure if Toyota or any other manufacturers do this, but FCA will list on a vehicle's build sheet if it was sold to a rental company.
