Renewable Lubricants

I don't know where to post this but what do you guys know about Renewable Lubricants? They make oil made from "renewable" sources, mostly soybeans I believe.

It is expensive like Amsoil's SSO 0w30 and I don't think avg user will be able to extend the their OCI long enough to make up for it like you can with the SSO.

I ran their 0W-20 for 10k in my 93 Civic and have enough left for another OCI in my Pilot and I have SSO in the Civic right now. I will probably end up going back to less expensive oil for both of them once the supply is gone.

I did one about 2,500 miles into the first OCI of the RLI 0W-20 here.
Very interesting oil but in my opinion it is currently too expensive per mile of use for the avg user OCI. To bring the cost per mile down you would need to initially spend more money by extending your OCI backed by used oil analysis to find out how hard your vehicle, driving style and conditions are on the oil in order to figure out how far you can stretch future OCI's.

I only have about 1,000 miles on the SSO now, but will do a used oil analysis on it at 2,500. Like the RLI it is expensive and I would not accept Amsoil's advertised drain intervals on blind faith unless backed by used oil analysis for the same reasons I mentioned above.

I can probably do four 5k OCI's in a year on conventional oil for less money compared to a one year OCI of the SSO and I doubt used oil analysis would show a significant difference in wear metals. That is why I will probably go back to using less expensive oils, only time and used oil analysis will tell!

I'm using RLI's 5w30 and am a few thousand miles into my projected 7,000 mile or so OCI. My driving style during this interval has been predominately short-trip drives, so I am interested to see this coming analysis. The oil "looks" to be holding up well.

Not sure if you've seen my UOA post, but I've got 13,000 miles on RLI 5w-20 in my '07 Honda Fit. I'll be changing it out shortly -- for some more RLI. I am, however, having a hard time finding a local distributor for RLI's products. There was one in Vienna but he no longer carries their products.
