might be the wrong forum but its the closest I could find -

Marine Diesel - Westerbeke 70hp - Mazda Industrial conversion from Westerbeke. 4500 hrs - Boat has sat for several months - remove thermostat and mixer manifold - a lot of scale/calcified material found - coolant system is all aluminum. I was going to do a fresh water flush and put in ( your suggestion here) should I consider a RidLyme treatment or is there something else that I can put into the system along with the coolant?

cheers

Stay away from using CLR, it is too strong and may corrode your engine/HG. Try something less offensive like the Preston flush or other Citric Acid based products.

CLR works great, just mix it 50/50 with water and make sure all antifreeze is flushed out first. Run motor for about 30 mins, heat and circulation dramatically improve results. I've done this with neglected boats and cars for years, and learned of this trick from a Donzi tech. Just make sure you flush it out well before adding antifreeze. You may need a 2nd application of CLR if the deposits remain. This works better than any method I've tried.

Peak Professional Lifetime coolant will last a lifetime. If you use this you will never have to change it again.

The engine is already corroded, CLR removes this corrosion. Works great on coffee machines too.

Well; I hate to jump into this thread blind and stupid, but hey....if I'm blind and stupid, how else can I jump into it? I have a bit of a problem with the terminology here: What is CLR? I just noticed a bit of scale in my '66 mustang radiator and was wondering what the best remedy would be, before it gets too bad. I'm assuming this CLR stuff is okay in an old 'Stang cooling system? (It's equipped with an old style copper tube radiator; not an aluminum one.) Thanks for the info: It's always a learning experience!

Calcium Lime Rust, my father uses it in his radiators all the time when he flushes. He claims you can toss a bottle in with distilled water and drive the car around for a few days and it'll get all the deposits out.
