Remington Ammo

I got a box of Remington .38 Semi-Jacketed Hollow Point in
110 grain plus P. Any opinions about how they would be in a
two inch snub for home defense. Thank you

idk about that. but i can tell you i wont use Remington ammo in my 22 apparently they put some sort of coating on the bullet and my gun will jam with them. i use federals and have no issues at all. and im not the only person i know several people that have had issue with the Remington product line. thats only my experience so take it for what its worth.

Revolver will eat any ammo. Flash may blind you in the dark. Hornady tap ammo low flash.

As a police officer that carries a snub nose 38 special revolver as a back up gun, I've done huge amounts of research on this very topic.

The following loads offer consistent penetration and expansion from a short barrel revolver (all 38 special):

1- Speer Gold Dot 135+p
2- Corbon 110+p DPX (all copper bullet)
3- Remington 125+p Golden Saber
4- Remington 158+p LSWCHP (FBI load R38S12)

+1, you really want a good carry ammo for home defense, and not Walmart JSP's.
Gold Dots are what live in both of my Glocks, and my grandma's .38
Golden Saber's are what live in my Kel-Tec, because it's very perticular about what it will feed.

Yes, Remington SJHP will be fine. I sometimes think people mistake home defense situations with Omaha Beach defense situations. Getting shot, anywhere with anything, will cause the random druggie to GTF out of Dodge.

this is probly irrelevant but my shotgun hates federal ammo. I had 12 out of 50 not go boom at the range. never a problem with remington or winchester

I found that Remington ammo has a very bright flash compared to Speer and Federal. It's a noticeably longer recovery for my vision when shooting at night.

Some people like a heavy bullet, some like a light. All of the choices stated by bubbatime are good. Some go with an in-between weigth (i.e. 140-145 grain buller). Are you using a J-frame snub or a K frame snub (assuming it is a S&W).

One thing to consider is recoil. I had a S&W 640 and sold it to purchase a 642 (aluminum frame) for better portability. The 640 was a dream to shoot. It handled the recoil well. Not so much for the 642. I put 5 rounds of Winchester Silvertip 145(?) grains through it. The recoil was stout. I will go out today and try the 130 DPX ammo and see if the recoil is any better out of the 642.

If this is a home defense weapon and will not be used for concealed carry, I would strongly suggest a larger handgun like a 3" or 4" k frame or Ruger revolver.

The op listed the firearm as a 2" snub, so I would assume a "J" frame like a 637 or a simillar clone.

+1 to otis24. If this is not going to be carried, I strongly suggest a Ruger GP-100 or, if the hands are smaller, an SP-101; both are .357, but can also shoot .38spl. as well. Stout guns that are able to digest a lifetime of the most powerful .357's without problems. The S&W crowd will claim that the Smith's are smoother or more "refined"; but nobody that claims to know guns will argue about the durability and strength of a Ruger.

I've heard quite a few people talk about problems with remington ammo. When i first bought my glock i purchased a 50 pack of fmj's that are still sitting on my nightstand, for whatever reason i haven't used them yet. I've fired winchester and federal fmj's through it with no problem.

I have a mag full of federal hydra-shok for sd carry.

That glop is tough on the Ruger target pistols. Doesn't hurt them but, as the old Limerick says Oh wnat a B.....d to clean".

Remington .38 special +P ammo has a very bright flash, good for practice but not for home defense.
