2013 fiesta SE Hatch 5 Speed manual. First speed synchro on it's way out. Pops out of first sometimes on launch. 90,000 + miles. Transmission works great otherwise. No funny noises. Found several:
Zumbrota Bearing and Gear $2195 2 yr warranty
Midwest $2803 1 year warranty.
Both above through Autozone. Free Shipping. No core charge.

Found used at AutoMix.net. Shipped from S Carolina 126,000 miles $1169 1 year warranty. Not found out shipping and core charges.

Any recommended builders?
Been cautioned to only use the Ford fluid.

Bought the car new. Have had no other expenses beside gas, oil, filters, tires, and other fluid changes. If no core charge I could rebuild the original transmission at my leisure if needed.

I'd reach out to site member @clinebarger he's the go to guy for transmissions, and he's in Texas. I know he works wonders with automatic transmissions, this might be something he does as well.

No grinding going into first? Check the cable adjustment first before condemning the unit or synchro.

From my OP - "Pops out of first sometimes on launch." It does this sometimes. Other times I just take off on first and it works, so I am guessing Synchro. This transmission has been noted for not wanting to downshift into first unless you are going at a walking speed crawl. Some people will will swear that it has no synchro on first. It's just poorly designed. I have driven lots of vehicles that had no synchro on first and I know whats that's like. Pre engine management you could match revs and downshift into first. Today's engines do not allow the throttle to instantly close so that's hard to do.

To restate, this happens after I stop, Shift into first and it pops out of first when I take off. Other times I can take off as usual and it stays in first until I shift to second. When it does not pop out I can accelerate full power and it stays in first.

OK. Will do. Last thing I did was to replace the front sway bar bushings and linkages. Did not remove the sub assy that the sway bar and steering rack are attached to, but I did loosen some bolts so I could drop it down enough get to the sway bushing bolts. Are the engine/transmission mounts attached to that sub assy?

Don't remember if this started before or after I did that last job. Has definitely got worse since then.

Without a vin number there are two options from Ford for that transmission. Need a vin to determine which one is correct but one transmission has a list price of 652 dollars and the other is 1930

VIN is 3FADPF4J5DM225349
How do I Check shift linkage for correct adjustment? When I move the shifter the pattern appears to be mapped correctly.

From what I see the mounts are bolted to the cradle and the trans mount has elongated holes left/right and forward/rearward.
You need a FSM to see where and how this is adjusted but if you did this on ramps and loosened the mount bolts there is a chance the trans mount has slipped rearward, I have no idea what was loosened it is just a thought. That trans mount may also be shot, that can cause issues like this. I did a VW New Beetle with a bad dog bone trans mount that when the engine torqued under load like it does on take off it would pop out of gear.

FSM? You mean Factory Service Manual? They don't print them anymore. I saw something about mapping. If you can move the shifter say from 1 to 2 or 3 to 4 in a straight line, the adjustment is right. If you have to make a slight side wise jog between 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 then it is not shifting correctly. My Fiesta shifter moves smoothly between 1 and 2 , 3 and 4. moves to 5 and R well also.

Right side motor mount seems good. Have not inspected bottom motor mount or the transmission mount. How would you suggest assessing their condition?

A while ago I unbolted the lower subframe and lowered it about an inch so that I could access the sway bar bushing bolts. Looks like the bottom motor mount is connected to that subframe. Seems like popping out of first is worse since then. When I pops out there was a loud bang. I now take off very gently so I can feel if it is going to pop out. I will then shift to any other gear and back to first so that hopefully first will engage correctly. If it engages correctly I can give it full power w/out it popping out.

It will shift properly if the mount is causing the problem because it will only make trouble under load when the engine torques.
Check the mounts with a pry bar. If you loosened bolts on this part when you dropped the cradle it may have slipped.
You can get a FSM on ebay.

I will check one of them out. Don't think they are complete. Most of them all all models. Probably like a Haynes or even worse, a Chilton. Those can get you in a lot of trouble, especially the Chilton's. For $17 it's worth a gamble. Last printed by Ford manual for 3rd gen Escort and Tracer cost me $200 and was worth every penny. I searched for a Ford workshop manual (by Ford) after I bought the Fiesta. Only ones came from Russia and I thought I would get ripped off or hacked.

Don't think I unbolted the bottom motor mount when lowering the sub assembly.
