I want to use a relay for aftermarket seat heaters. I purchased a 4 pin relay rated at 30 amps. Each seat heater is rated at 4.5 amps for a total of 9. I am planning to run a positive wire, 14 ga no longer than 6 feet, from the fuse box under the hood where I can get constant power. There are a couple of fuses under the dash where I can get power that is controlled by the ignition switch using the piggyback style jumper. If I use the keyed power to control the relay on/off and the wire from under the hood for the power to the seat heaters, will this be a safe and reliable way to do this job? 2015 Honda Fit

Yes, but I assume you have another switch going to the relay so it's not always on when the car is on.
Get power from inside the car somewhere. Another wire going through the firewall is trouble waiting to happen.
Inside your inside fusebox should be a place you can tap. Typically you find empty slots for fuses for options you don't have. Ironically, "seat heaters" is one I like to use.
It's in a position that only works with the key on, so it doesn't waste energy on ACC if I'm listening to the radio or whatever.
Tap it, fuse it, call it good.
I don't even think you need relays for this. I assume you'll be switching each one individually and most switches can take 4.5 amps.

The circuit that powers the relay is activated with the key, so when the key is shut off the relay with cut power. I had it wired directly to the fuse box with piggyback jumpers already, like I have done in the past with other vehicles and never had a problem. But my local Honda dealer gave me a hard time when the fuel pump failed on this car. This was discussed here recently. I just want to add the relay to avoid any further problems and since I have never used a relay before I wanted some input. The heater kit comes with it`s own switches and fuses. Thanks
