DO NOT DO THIS!
What happens is that the bead may get trapped (snagged, whatever) - and that may lead to the bead breaking! By applying pressure slowly you can see if you have a problem and back off when it is apparent that you do!
Maybe so, but I mount my own sport-bike tires and even with lube, there's nothing subtle or slow when those super-stiff beads finally !POP! onto the rim. I can only imagine big truck tires.
