Red Line & Toyota TRD Together

Interesting. I guess Toyota's TRD department and regular Toyota don't have much in common since i've never heard of Redline oil and Toyota mentioned in the same sentence.

Hmmmm, I wonder if they used RL in their IMSA GTP efforts, and TTE World Rally Celicas and Corollas (despite the latter carrying Repsol livery all over them) as well, or was it just in the Pro/Celebrity races??

If TRD was part of the WRC Toyota team that was sponsored by Castrol in the 1990s, that really makes you think. Same with the NASCAR Toyotas running TRD engines (or it is TRIAD?) that have Mobil 1 contingency stickers.

You're right! In fact I now remember them announcing that agreement and that was just several months ago. I was stuck on the mindset that the Red Line/Toyota agreement was for exclusive use of RL for all TRD backed teams. I never should have assumed that. Stupid me.

^^^That could not be, simply because JGR is NOT going to use another oil over the one he himself markets (unless they pay him many millions to do just that, or to put stickers on the cars to make the public think he is doing that.

Good point! I agree and actually I was trying to retract that statement I made earlier to avoid any confusion. Anyhow, I went on to the Sprint Cup team chart on jayski.com and discovered that JGR builds their own engines and none of them are built my TRD. On top of that, none of the JGR NASCAR entries have Mobil 1 stickers on them. So those two things should strongly back up your point.

The article Buster posted said this:

"With this new partnership, ExxonMobil’s racing oil technology will now provide performance and protection for the TRD-supported Red Bull Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing NASCAR teams."

I think the other Toyota teams build their own engines.

I was under the impression that only toyota team to build their own engines was JGR, and the rest are built by TRD. I dont think JGR even leases their engines on the Sprint side, but I could be wrong. JGR had some issues early in the year and they got so desperate that they sent out their engines to TRD so that they could try to find out the issues with the engines. I wonder how much TRD copied their engine design?

When Kyle Busch wins the truck races, he thanks Gibbs for using his oil in his race trucks. They must have a special deal going on.
